Captain Ken Tree
Ken was a seafarer for 22 years, including ten years in command on chemical tankers. His first shore posting was to Kuala Lumpur as Operations manager for 3 years with the joint venture MISC/Panocean. Ken then joined Stolt-Nielsen in a variety of senior Chartering roles, including six years as the General Manager and Director of the Stolt-Nielsen Inter Asia Service, three years as the Director and Marketing Manager for the Stolt-Nielsen dedicated Inter European vegetable oil fleet, and two years as a Director and Chartering Manager for Stolt-Nielsen Inc.
Since 1996 he has run his own consulting business specialising in the chemical, oils and fats industry. In this capacity he has worked closely with Drewry. In the production of their Chemical Tanker Quarterly and specialised projects.
Ken served on the Oil and Fats Committee of the Federation of Oil Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA) for ten years, and as a ship owner representative on the Vegetable Oil Industry Shipping Terms Working Group, dealing with the safe carriage of oils and fats.
He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators since 1994, and has been a practising LMAA Arbitrator and Expert Witness specialising in the parcel tanker trade.
He has successfully run Chemical Tanker familiarisation courses of a commercial and operational nature for clients including Stolt-Nielsen, Odfjell, Jo Tankers, BLT and Novoship which were done at client’s premises or at the KTR Maritime office.
