Charles K. Barton

Educated at the Nautical College Pangbourne, he went to sea as an Officer/Cadet for a relatively short time before coming ashore and working for a number of Shipping Companies as well as the Chamber of Shipping of the U.K.

In 1966 he joined Esso Chemical in Brussels in the Supply and Distribution Department for six years. He then went to London and Coastal Oil Wharves in the U.K. to develop their Storage for Chemicals.

After a six month period with the Battelle Institute in Geneva working on a project for OPEC, he joined Stolt-Nielsen, working in a number of positions in Europe and the United States, ending up as Projects Manager, Commercial.

In 1980 during another spell as a Consultant, he completed the feasibility study for Odfjell Westfal-Larsen to justify the Baytank Storage Terminal in Houston.

In 1981 he joined Jo Tankers in Bergen, Norway and served in a number of senior positions, including Projects, Manager of the West Africa Service and later, the Trans-Atlantic Service. In 1993 he went to Singapore and opened an Asian Branch Office for Jo Tankers there, returning to the Rotterdam Head Office in 1998 where he was Marketing Manager.

In 2000 he started on his own as a Consultant and since then has been working in that capacity with Capt. Ken Tree and as an Associate of Drewry Shipping Consultants.
